Terms & conditions
Last updated: 27 July 2026
These terms govern your use of the Small Claims Hub website and related online tools (the “Platform”). Please read them carefully before starting a case, uploading evidence, purchasing document packs, or requesting a lawyer handoff.
1. Platform only: not legal advice or representation
Small Claims Hub is an online self-help platform that helps you organise facts, upload evidence, draft procedural documents, and understand NSW Local Court small claims process (generally for money claims up to $20,000 in the Small Claims Division). Document packs and procedure guides on the Platform are documentation and self-help tools only. The Platform is not a law firm and does not itself provide legal advice, act as your lawyer, or represent you in court. Information, FAQs, chat responses, and generated drafts are for general legal information and procedural guidance only. Any legal advice, solicitor filing, court attendance, or other legal services are only through optional handoff to an independent solicitor. You remain responsible for the accuracy of your story, evidence, and court filings.
2. Independent law firms and handoffs
Optional lawyer handoff and quote requests may be referred to independent law firms in the Lawplexity network, including Alton Legal (https://alton.legal) and such other firms as may be engaged from time to time. When you start a case, you may consent to your contact details and case information being passed to a lawyer for review in connection with a handoff or quote request. That consent does not create a retainer, solicitor–client relationship, or duty of care by any law firm. A handoff request alone does not oblige a firm to accept your matter or provide advice. If you accept a handoff or engage a firm, your professional relationship, costs agreement, advice, and legal services are with that firm under their own obligations, not with the Platform operator, except to the extent the operator supplies the software used to transmit your case file.
3. What you can do on the Platform
Subject to these terms, you may use the Platform to: • check whether a dispute may suit the NSW small claims track; • create and manage case files; • record your story and upload evidence; • draft and customise letters of demand, statements of claim, chronologies, and related materials; • purchase document packs where offered (for example Small Claim Bundle, Letter of Demand Document only, Court Case Documents only, or Enforcement Documents only); • use enforcement guidance tools after judgment; and • ask general process questions via chat and FAQs. Use of chat or triage tools does not create a retainer and does not guarantee a particular court outcome or that a referred firm will accept your matter.
4. Your responsibilities
You must provide accurate and complete information and only upload documents you are lawfully entitled to share. You are responsible for verifying names, amounts, dates, court fees, limitation periods, and service requirements before filing or sending documents. You must not misuse the Platform (including attempting to access other users’ cases, interfering with security, or uploading unlawful or harmful content). Witness statements and affidavits must be in your own words, the Platform will not draft them for you.
5. Fees, packs, promotions and payments
Some document packs and features require payment through the Platform’s checkout. Prices shown are in AUD unless stated otherwise and may change. Where a promotional or discounted price is shown next to a usual price, the usual price is the ordinary price we charge for that pack outside the promotional period. Promotional prices apply until 31 December 2026 (unless we publish an earlier end date). Promotional prices are temporary discounts against our usual pack prices. We do not use inflated “was” prices that were never genuinely charged. Court filing fees, service fees, enforcement fees, and third-party charges are usually separate and payable to the court or other parties. Payment processing is handled by our payment provider; refunds (if any) are subject to the pack description and applicable consumer law (including the Australian Consumer Law).
6. No guarantee of recovery or outcome
Neither the Platform nor any referred law firm guarantees that you will recover money, obtain judgment, or succeed in enforcement. Court decisions depend on the facts, evidence, and applicable law. Overseas or interstate matters may not be suitable for this Platform’s NSW-focused tools.
7. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by Australian law (including the Australian Consumer Law), the Platform operator is not liable for legal advice or acts of independent firms, court outcomes, or losses arising from your reliance on general information, AI-assisted drafts, or automated calculations (including interest estimates). Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded by law.
8. Privacy
How we handle personal information is described in our Privacy policy. By using the Platform you acknowledge that your details, case data, and uploads may be shared with a referred law firm if you request a handoff, and with infrastructure providers needed to operate the service.
9. Accounts and linked websites
If you create an account or sign in on this Platform (including via email or Google), your account identity may be shared with lawplexity.ai and other websites operated by or associated with the Lawplexity platform. Using the same email or sign-in method on those sites may link to the same user profile and authentication record, so you do not need a separate password for each property. Your case files, uploads, purchases, and activity on Small Claims Hub remain subject to these terms and our Privacy policy. Other Lawplexity sites have their own terms and privacy notices.
10. Changes and contact
We may update these terms by publishing a revised version on this page. Continued use of the Platform after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms. Questions about the Platform: use the chat on this site or contact the portal operator through your organisation’s published support channel. Questions about an engaged law firm should be directed to that firm (for Alton Legal, see https://alton.legal).
